Nero, last of the Julio-Claudians, ruled from AD 54 until his suicide in 68, and this issue belongs to the final phase of his reign when civil unrest in the provinces was already gathering toward revolt.

The reverse invokes Jupiter Custos, "Jupiter the Guardian," whose protection Nero credited with saving him from the Pisonian conspiracy of AD 65 and to whom he subsequently dedicated regular cult honors.

Brushed surfaces with moderate wear consistent with the grade.
