Nero, the last Julio-Claudian emperor, ruled from AD 54 to 68; this coin belongs to the early years of his reign, when his portraiture still showed him young and unbearded.

Ceres, the goddess of grain and agricultural fertility, was a recurrent figure on imperial coinage as a guarantor of Rome's food supply, the responsibility for which fell ultimately on the emperor.

Toned with light porosity and a scratch on the reverse.
