Nero, the last of the Julio-Claudian emperors, ruled from AD 54 to 68 and inherited the throne through his mother Agrippina's marriage to Claudius.

The eagle on a thunderbolt was the standard emblem of Roman provincial silver at Antioch, drawn from the iconography of Zeus and signaling the coin's authority across the Syrian east.

Reverse legend: ETOYΣ BIP • I, Greek for "year 112, (regnal year) 10," combining the Caesarean Era reckoning from 49 BC with Nero's regnal count to fix the issue to AD 64.
