By 63, Nero had not yet murdered his mother in the popular memory of the eastern provinces, or rather he had, but Antioch was content to keep striking him in silver as if Olympus itself had loaned him its wardrobe. This tetradrachm dresses the young emperor in the aegis, the goatskin of Zeus and Athena, a flourish the Julio-Claudians had used sparingly and which here pushes Nero past mere divinity-adjacent princeps into something more frankly Olympian. The reverse eagle on thunderbolt, palm frond at its shoulder, is the standard Antiochene reverse for the series, but paired with that aegis-clad bust it reads less as civic shorthand than as a deliberate Zeus-tableau: the god's bird beneath the god's skin.
The double date, regnal year 10 and Caesarean year 111, anchors the issue to AD 63, the year Corbulo's eastern settlement with Parthia over Armenia was being hammered into shape, a diplomatic coup that would culminate two years later in Tiridides kneeling at Nero's feet in Rome. Antioch, the logistical heart of that whole campaign, had reason to flatter the emperor in the loudest theological vocabulary available. Five years on, the same man would open his own veins in a suburban villa, but in 63 the silver still believed him.
