Galba, governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, was acclaimed emperor in the spring of AD 68 after the revolt of Vindex against Nero, and this denarius belongs to the unsettled months of his march on Rome before his recognition by the Senate.

Victory on a globe was a standard imperial claim to universal triumph, here advertising the success of Galba's cause against Nero in the civil war that opened the Year of the Four Emperors.

General roughness with somewhat ragged flan; retains pleasing portrait despite wear.
