Obverse: Aquila in toga picta over tunica palmata with wreath. Reverse: Slow quadriga right with Victories adorning the front and side, surmounted by four miniature horses galloping right.

Augustus celebrated a triple triumph in 29 BC for his victories in Illyricum, at Actium, and in Egypt, and the regalia shown here, the embroidered toga and palm tunic kept in the temple of Jupiter Capitolinus, were the formal vestments worn by a triumphing general.

The triumphal quadriga, adorned by Victories and crowned with a team of miniature horses, recalls the chariot in which Augustus rode through Rome during those celebrations and which afterwards stood as a monument to his supremacy.
