Augustus, sole ruler since his victory over Antony and Cleopatra at Actium in 31 BC, struck this issue at the imperial mint of Lugdunum, the principal silver-producing center for the western provinces.

The reverse honors Apollo of Actium, whose sanctuary near the battle site Augustus credited with his victory and whose cult he elevated through a new temple on the Palatine and the revived Actian Games.

Reverse legend: IMP • X, ACT, expanding to *Imperator decimum, Actium*, "Hailed *imperator* for the tenth time, Actium." The numeral marks Augustus's tenth acclamation as victorious commander, while ACT identifies the Apollo depicted as the god of Actium.
