Augustus, born Gaius Octavius and styled *Imperator Caesar Divi filius Augustus* after the Senate's grant of January 27 BC, by the late 17 BC was consolidating the symbolic vocabulary of the new principate on his coinage.

The Capricorn was Augustus's natal sign, which he advertised as a token of destined rule; paired here with the globe, rudder, and cornucopia, it claims that his birth-star steers the world toward abundance.
