Honos, the Roman personification of military honor, was paired with Virtus in a shared cult and frequently invoked in Augustan iconography to dignify the princeps and his achievements.

The elephant biga was an honor reserved for the most distinguished triumphators and divinized figures, and its appearance here aligns Augustus with that exalted register following the constitutional settlement of 27 B.C. and the return of the Parthian standards in 20 B.C.
